Brothers and Sisters of Local 4201

With the rapid spread of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19), we find ourselves in a fast-moving situation that requires focus, flexibility and compassion. Local 4201 members have exhibited all these things and more in response to this global pandemic, and for that we are grateful.

As COVID-19 continues to cause havoc not only in our industry but also our daily lives we must remember to take care of ourselves, our families and each other.  We are in constant communication with management and the CWA national. We continue to urge the company to continue to take preventive measures to help limit exposure, including additional cleaning to all areas.  Hand sanitizer and Lysol wipes should be available at the ticket counters and gate areas.  As we all know, there is an increasing shortage of these items and we are in discussions about possible alternatives that can be provided in the meantime.

Your health and welfare are important to us, so please take all precautions.  If you are not feeling well and are experiencing any of the signs of COVID-19, contact a physician immediately.  The CDC has listed the symptoms as: cough, fever, shortness of breath or difficult breathing and persistent chest pain.  This list is just to name a few, please contact a physician if you are experiencing other concerning symptoms.

The company has extended a two-week paid sick policy to those who have a confirmed diagnosis of COVID-19 or have been advised to self-quarantine. No attendance points or occurrences will be given due to this absence.  We are asking management for flexibility in the attendance policy for those that show REASONABLE risk, such as the above symptoms, and stay home as a precaution to others.  We must all take care of ourselves and our families above all.  If you feel your symptoms are a reasonable risk to yourself and others, please stay home and contact your physician.

As most of you know, the company will begin or is currently offering weekly or monthly leaves or VTO's.  The employee on leave will still be considered active, so benefits and seniority will not be affected.  Length of leaves or VTO’s offered will vary between stations, please watch for your station's information on this matter via email or postings.

In the next few weeks, disruption will be the norm. We ask for your continued patience and resourcefulness as we take further steps to guard the health and safety of our members. We are all in this together – and while we may need to practice “social distancing,” it is vital that we stay in touch during this period.  We are mindful of the economic and personal strain COVID-19 may cause you and we are here if you have any questions or concerns.

    In Unity,

    Local 4201 E-Board
